What is Your Bank ID

Your Bank ID is a digital identification system designed to overcome the hurdles people have in proving who they are. With the Bank ID a unique biometric identity is established supporting the identifications of individuals for convenient and secure bank account opening, cash deposits and withdrawals.

Your Bank ID Pilot objectives

The Bank ID pilot project is conducted in the East-Sepik province, around Maprik and Wewak towns. During the pilot 2500 users will be enrolled to the system by the two financial institutions MiBank and Mama Bank over the course of three months.

Your Bank ID is interoperable, which means the Bank ID Cards works with all participating service providers. During the pilot there are two service providers: MiBank and Mama Bank, who provide banking services.

The pilot project is a small scale test used to prove the viability of the Bank ID. Your Bank ID is designed for the conditions in rural Papua New Guinea and this is the first time it is used in real life. Therefore we look forward to learning as much as possible from you, the users of the Bank ID, and we ask you to frequently report issues and improvement ideas so that improvements can be made.

The success of the Bank ID pilot is measured with three performance indicators

  1. Number of enrollments: We need to convince people of the benefits offered by Bank ID so that they want to get their own Bank ID Card
  2. Number of bank accounts opened: We need to open bank account for everyone who has been enrolled and who does not already have one in your bank
  3. Bank transactions authenticated by Bank ID: We must target people who are economically active, for example vanilla farmers and traders, and encourage them to use their Bank ID Card for banking transactions

System components
